Thanks to a very favorable seasonal trend, characterized by normal rainfall in the late spring and a very hot summer, the 2015 vintage of our Bardolino Classico has a really nice flavour profile and identity!
Ruby red colour with faint violet reflections, the nose gives off black cherries and raspberries, with slight hints of licorice and spices; the sip is attractively slim and easy to drink, with very fine tannins and a captivating pungency on the final.
This juicy and crispy Bardolino, with a fresh and persistent taste, shines in pairing with meat Lasagna, pasta with beans, white meat and the traditional Veronese boiled meat. It can be matched also with some fatty lake fish dishes: risotto with tench and eel grilled. Traditionally it is paired with one of the most classic Venetian dish: polenta and baccalà (salted codfish). To try something unsual, taste it with the cous cous with vegetables and fish or with meat.
Short historical note: although the ancient Romans already cultivated the vine in the Bardolino area, the first written evidences date back to the Middle Ages, when religious institutions incentivized agricultural development of that area. At the beginning of 1800 appeared “Bardolino” as a wine name.
In 1969, the year of the Consorzio di tutela del vino Bardolino DOC foundation, Luigi Veronelli described Bardolino - already defined by him as "nice" - as a wine with "a transparent ruby red colour and a joyful, brilliant bouquet, which preserves a fruitiness that makes it elegant and a dry, light taste, with a subtle salinity."
