Santa Sofia unveiled the new face of its first DOCG Amarone at
8 ½ Otto e Mezzo BOMBANA and at Alto 88 in Hong Kong

September 2016

Our 2011 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico, Santa Sofia’s first DOCG Amarone, was presented at 8 ½ Otto e Mezzo BOMBANA - the first and only three Michelin Stars Italian restaurant outside Italy – and at Alto 88, the exclusive restaurant of Regal Hong Kong Hotel.

These two monumental winemaker dinners payed homage to the 200th anniversary and they were the occasion to unveil the new face of 2011 Amarone. The ceremony in true Venetian style featured the “unmasking” of one Salmanazar, a 9-litre-bottle hidden behind an original Venetian mask, and revealed that way the image restyling of the company began with the new label of the historic Amarone Classico.
The extraordinary 2011 vintage, which has been considered among the best ones of the last ten years, has carried the wine producer into its third century. Santa Sofia was founded in 1811 and, over the year, has built up and maintained a reputation that has seen it increase successfully from a "small estate with high quality" to a company which has become one of the most significant realities in Verona.

At three Michelin-starred 8 ½ Otto e Mezzo BOMBANA the executive chef Mr. Antimo Maria Merone designed a luxury menu for the special occasion, pairing delicacies with a selection of Santa Sofia wines for a first-class dinner experience. Meanwhile at the evocative Alto 88 the Salmanazar Amarone 2011 was served as well as the Gioè Amarone Riserva 2007. Both paired with a super menu created by the celebrity guest chef Igor Macchia of Michelin-starred Ristorante La Credenza in San Maurizio Canavese, Torino (Italy).

The events were supported by the Italian Consulate General in Hong Kong and Macau, the Italian Trade Agency, the Italian Chamber of Commerce, Bellissima Italia, the deputy consul general in Hong Kong and Macau Ms. Sarah Negro and, the Italian Consul Mr. Antonello De Riu, the owner of Santa Sofia Mr. Luciano Begnoni; the chief operating officer of Galaxy Entertainment Group Mr. Kevin Kelley, the guest chef Mr. Igor Macchia for Alto 88 and Mr. Umberto Bombana, chef and founder of 8½ Otto e Mezzo BOMBANA.

Starting from 8 September to 30 November, the Santa Sofia 2011 Amarone DOCG will be exclusively available at Galaxy Macau restaurants including: 8½ Otto e Mezzo BOMBANA, Terrazza Italian Restaurant, Gosto, Pak Loh Chiu Chow Restaurant, The Macallan Whisky Bar & Lounge, Lai Heen, The Ritz-Carlton Bar & Lounge, as well as Man Ho Chinese Restaurant.
